Travis County has responded to many emergencies in recent years. Below you will find brief summaries of major incidents and how the County, our partners, and our community worked to address them.

April 2024 Eclipse

Large crowds gathered across Central Texas to view the total solar eclipse. Travis County coordinated with regional partners to ensure traffic control, public safety coverage, and emergency medical services.

2023 Extreme Heat Preparedness

Central Texas experienced record-setting heat waves. Cooling centers were opened, residents were urged to check on vulnerable populations, and guidance on heat safety was distributed widely.

COVID-19 (2020 to 2023)

The pandemic required sustained response across all County departments. Travis County coordinated vaccine distribution, testing sites, and public information, while also ensuring continuity of essential services.

2023 Winter Storm Mara Recovery

Freezing rain caused widespread tree damage, downed power lines, and prolonged outages. Travis County organized debris cleanup operations, supported utility restoration, and provided warming centers for impacted residents.

January 2023 Severe Weather

Severe storms with high winds and hail caused property damage across several communities. The County activated emergency operations, supported recovery services, and coordinated with state agencies for disaster aid.

June 2022 Extreme Heat Preparedness

Prolonged triple-digit temperatures stressed power and water systems. Cooling centers were set up, residents were urged to conserve energy, and public health messaging highlighted heat illness prevention.

March 2022 Severe Weather

Severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds and localized flooding. Travis County activated response crews, provided shelter resources, and assisted with damage assessments.

2021 Winter Storm Uri

Winter Storm Uri was one of the harshest freezes in Texas history, leaving thousands in Travis County without power, heat, or safe water for days.
