Overview

The Travis County Tax Office plays a vital role in local government by delivering essential public services that support community funding, transportation, and civic engagement. We are responsible for four core services: collecting court fines and fees, motor vehicle title and registration, property tax assessment and collection, and voter registration. That means we:

  • Register and title motor vehicles
  • Issue state license plates
  • Issue placards for persons with disabilities
  • Collect property taxes and court fines and fees
  • Register voters and train volunteer deputy registrars

Every day, our team serves more than 1,000 in-person customers and answers up to 1,200 calls. Each year, we:

  • Collect over $6 billion in property taxes for more than 418,000 tax accounts across 160 taxing units
  • Process more than one million vehicle titles and registrations, collecting over $250 million
  • Collect over $1.5 million in court fines and fees
  • Maintain voter registration records for approximately 850,000 registered voters, supporting elections for more than 200 government entities

Our work requires accuracy, accountability, and timely service—and we take that responsibility seriously.
