What this means for Travis County residents
Effective immediately, all outdoor burning is prohibited within Travis County. This includes burning of brush, trash, debris, and household waste. Recreational fires in approved containers are still permitted on private property.
Why this notice is in effect
The Travis County Fire Marshal's office has declared a local disaster based on current Keetch-Byram Drought Index readings, low fuel moisture levels, and elevated wind forecasts. These conditions create an extreme wildfire risk; even small ignitions can spread rapidly.
What you can do
- Cancel any planned outdoor burning until the disaster declaration is lifted.
- Maintain defensible space around structures by clearing dry vegetation within 30 feet.
- Report any unattended outdoor fires or smoke to 911.
- Sign up for emergency alerts through the Travis County Emergency Services website.
How long this notice will remain
