Beginning January 2026, the Health and Human Services department will expand the childcare subsidy program to serve more working families in Travis County. The 12 percent funding increase reflects continued demand for affordable childcare in the region and the county's commitment to workforce stability.

Who qualifies for the expansion

Eligibility widens for families earning up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, up from the previous 150 percent threshold. Families with children under age six will see priority processing during the first quarter of 2026.

How to apply

Applications open through the Health and Human Services online portal starting December 15, 2025. Families currently enrolled do not need to reapply; their eligibility will be reassessed at their next annual renewal.
